Born to Run Collector Edition Michael Morpurgo 9780007456147 Books
Michael Morpurgo's BORN TO RUN is a sweetly moving tale of a greyhound and his three different "lives" and the three people who love him - a little boy, a teenage girl and an old widower. It's a book for kids, probably in the 9 to 12 age group, and as such is a moving and beautifully written little book. And children will appreciate the simple black and white illustrations by Michael Foreman scattered througout the narrative. The voice of the story alternates from a third person omniscient narrator and the thoughts and 'voice' of the dog. I wouldn't call this device entirely successful, but it works reasonably well, despite the somewhat awkward 'humanizing' of the canine experience.Kids will appreciate the insights into other people's lives shown here, and may learn something from the dysfunctional, broken family life of the teen girl Becky; the cruelties often associated with dog racing; and the loneliness that older people can often feel.
I'm an old guy, more than fifty years removed from this book's target audience, but I liked it. It was a quick and enjoyable read and I'd recommend it highly to the pre-teen reading audience.

I really enjoyed this book, though I thought it was quite sad, but with a great message.
A great book by a great author.
so good, if you like dogs read this novel·
(poor Alphie) nearly as good as Listen To The Moon
#war horse is brilliant aswell
An amazing book that follows the life of a magnificent greyhound that moves, by no fault of his own, from home to home. Everywhere he goes, he transforms the lives of the people around him, all the while asking nothing in return. Moving and suspenseful, children will be eager to read on and on, as the setting of the story moves from a English public school, to the race-tracks, to the front lawn of an old person's home... At the back of the book, the author writes about how he once visited an animal shelter, and, while there, wondered about the varied lives that each dog must have led before ending up at the pound. The book is a voyage through the emotionally rich and profound life that one such humble dog was able to lead.
THIS IS ONE OF MY FAVOURITE BOOKS EVER! I love this book sooooooooooooooooooo much! This book is about a Greyhound who goes from one owner to the next. From being stuck inside a sack with his brothers and sisters to being a pet, then to a professional racing Greyhound and finally to an old man. His name was changed from Best Mate to Brighteyes and then to Paddywack. There are some pictures in this book and a cute feature on the bottom of the page... A little Greyhound that runs as you use the book as a flick book. I did not get this book on but from a local Newsagents. This book is a wonderful, fantastic book for Doglovers, Fans of Michael Morpurgo or just someone looking for a good book! I recommend this book to people age 8-13. What a wonderful book!
It has broken pages inside , eventhought you fixed them with blue paper I should be warned about it .thanks
A very nice story and nice to read. My 11 year old found it easy to read and it kept her interested all the way through.
Very good read if you understand greyhounds just lovely. Enjoyed the book. Will like to read more of his books.
