When I met Cane Alexander in The Exception, I grouped him in with my favorite a**holes. Grey, Ward, Cross, Stark & so on. When I was forced to put my kindle down I kept asking myself "What will the a**hole going to do next?" & I couldn't wait to find out when I was able to start reading some more. In The Perception, I didn't put Max Quinn in a group, because that man is in a group all his own. I was crushing on him in The Exception but I fell hard for him in The Perception. He is everything a man should be. Sweet, sexy, understanding, all knowing and is still able to hold the possession of his man card. He is a great friend and a better boyfriend. I am so glad Adriana step out of her comfort zone and created Max. Adriana also has the ability to give us a heroine that we all can like and feel connected too, that doesn't happen very often. Kari could easily be your bestie and be someone you want to hang with, all the time. So if you want a good feeling story, this is the one.

4-4.5 stars. I was pleasantly surprised by how much I liked this book. Going into The Perception, I was a huge Max Quinn fan but I was less than lukewarm about Kari Stanley, even though I adored her sister Jada. Max and Kari have had this casual relationship that has extended into months and now over a year and I didn't like how Kari was stringing Max along when it was obvious that she had deeper feelings for him. Truthfully, I wanted Max to move on and find someone else who could return those affections to him because Max is a good-hearted Southern guy at the core and Kari just seemed kind of wishy-washy and flaky. In The Perception, there's more to Kari than meets the eye and she convinced me to root for her before the end of the book. What I liked about her was her overall calm demeanor. Despite whatever drama was happening around her, Kari was not one to lose her temper or her cool and she doesn't yell or make unnecessary assumptions. Even when other people were being rude to her, Kari handles them well without making a fool of herself. Slowly, I started to see what Max saw in her and since I wanted what Max wanted, I was eventually convinced that Kari was his best choice because quite frankly, some of the other female alternatives were just not a good fit for him at all and he knew it. Cane shows up quite a bit in this book and I'm happy to say that Cane isn't the guy I wanted to occasionally strangle in The Exception, he is a devoted husband to Jada and supportive best friend to Max. He doesn't do niceties the way Max does and it's quite amusing because there's someone who likes to stir up trouble that Max feels obligated to help and Cane doesn't tolerate that nonsense even for a second. Kari's reason for keeping Max at arm's length isn't as terrible as I had imagined because it doesn't make her a bad person, but I understood her fears and insecurities. Max is amazing. Whereas Cane was all over the place and out of sorts about Jada, Max is never uncertain about Kari and he always puts her first. He would do anything for her, literally. I absolutely loved Max in every way. There's a few twists in the story, all of which I saw coming because the clues were already in place, that move the plot along and force the characters to confront some very uncomfortable situations. Even if the feelings are there, like with any couple, Max and Kari have to overcome their issues in the past in order to have a future together.
In the conclusion to this series it's Max & Kari's sweet, sexy, twisting and turning roller coaster love story! You could read it by itself, but I'm glad I took the time to read The Exception (book one) and The Connection (book 1.5) before starting The Perception (book two). In doing so I was able to understand the connection between Max and Cane, and see little peaks into Max and Kari's relationship so I understood a little more of what was going on. It helped me understand Cane"s mannerisms he's not all bad, but a little different in this one since he and Jada are together, but he's still Cane!
Max is such a loving, thoughtful, caring man who is completely & utterly in love with Kari! He knows she loves him but she's always holding a piece of herself back, but why? He wants to protect her from the world, make her troubles go away and keep a smile on her face. Max is a total romantic at heart and makes her (& me) swoon with his words.....
*“Don’t kid yourself, sweetheart. This is as permanent as it gets.”
**Believe it, sweetheart. Believe in me. It’s time you realize that we are forever.
**All that matters is me and you.
Max leaves Kari sticky notes every day on the fridge & sometimes sneaks them in her bag or her car, they always make her smile and lift her spirits!
Kari loves Max but is waiting for something to go wrong like it always does, she thinks she's supposed to always be alone. What happened to her to make her feel like that?
**He filled the vacancy with laughs, smiles, and warmth. My life had been dull and now it was vibrant, bursting with red cups, multi-colored sticky notes, and the most beautiful green eyes I’d ever seen.
Of course there's always someone who wants what you have and thinks they deserve it more. Will Max be able to convince Kari she is supposed be happy with him forever and not just for sex (which is amazing)...
** “I need to figure out what she’s so scared of. That’s the key. And then change her perception.”
**You and I are permanent. I love you and everything that makes you you, Kari Stanley. I guarantee you I’m not leaving you and if you think you’re leaving me, you have another thing coming.”

I really enjoyed reading this story! I give it a ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ rating, the complete series will be on my TBRA(to-be-read-again) list! I laughed, cried and sometimes couldn't read fast enough to see what was on the next page! This story centers around Max and Kari but as with life, everyone else's lives progress as well so you get to see what happens with Cane and Jada too!
Where has Max Quinn been all my life?!?!?! I absolutely adored this book. I struggled a little bit in the beginning because I could feel the angst coming and I wasn't sure I was ready but very quickly got hooked. I loved Max and Kerri's relationship....the Post-it notes were possibly one if the cutest things I have ever seen in a book. I also loved seeing Cane and Jada throughout this book, just enough to provide an update without taking away from the story. I have to give this story overall a huge round of applause for making me feel all the angst while making me laugh and go awwwww.
